Teen in murder case to undergo psych evaluation

A teenage boy from Mtwalume who was charged with the kidnapping and murder of Sinethemba Ngcece Sibiya (8) will soon undergo psychological evaluation.
The boy’s name is known to the Herald, however, he cannot be named as he was a minor (17) when he committed the crime.
He appeared in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court on May 8 and the case was postponed. A new date is yet to be set.
According to the Ugu District Communications office, the teen has to undergo a psychological evaluation at the Fort Napier Hospital in Pietermaritzburg, before his next court appearance.
Sinethemba was a learner at Makhoso Primary, her body was found near a river a week after she went missing in September 2023.
Also, the teen has been charged with the attempted sexual assault and attempted murder of a six year old girl.
He was nabbed by a community forum and community members after he allegedly attacked the girl in Makhoso in Mtwalume in July last year.
The girl was on her way home from school when she was snatched and taken into bushes. Her clothes were removed, she was strangled and hit on the head.
She was left for dead in the bushes. However, after regaining consciousness, she ran to a neighbouring house for help.
