Hawks swoop on drug dealer in Mtwalume bust
Drugs were taken off the streets thanks to swift police action.
A 27-year-old man was arrested for dealing in drugs and possession of live ammunition after an intelligence-driven operation by the Hawks in Mtwalume last month.
According to Hawks spokesperson, Warrant Officer Sibu Ncane, the operation was carried out by members of the Port Shepstone Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit, assisted by Port Shepstone Public Order Policing.
Ncane said the Hawks received information about an alleged drug dealer operating in Mfazazane, and after securing a search warrant, launched a multi-agency raid on the suspect’s premises.
“During the search, our members discovered a cache of capsules believed to be heroin and tablets suspected to be mandrax, with an estimated street value of R252 000,” said Ncane.
Police also uncovered 16 live rounds of ammunition and R9082 in cash, suspected to be proceeds from drug sales.
Ncane confirmed that the suspect was arrested, charged and recently appeared in the Umzumbe Magistrate’s Court.
The KwaZulu-Natal Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Provincial Head, Major General (Dr) Lesetja Senona, commended the team for their dedication and commitment to tackling drug-related crime in the region.
