June sees close to 11 000 arrested in KZN crime crackdown
Police say operations in crime hotspots will continue, with increased visibility.
Police in KwaZulu-Natal arrested 10 872 suspects during June for various crimes.
Contact crimes remain high, with 3278 arrests, including 1559 for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and 197 for murder.
The Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit arrested 207 suspects for rape and 19 for other sexual offences.
Drug-related arrests totaled 1856.
Police also arrested 554 people for driving under the influence and 869 undocumented persons.
Other arrests included 702 for common assault, 371 for malicious damage to property, 372 for shoplifting and 229 for possession of dangerous weapons.
Police say operations in crime hotspots will continue with increased visibility during the school holidays to protect residents and visitors alike.
