Cops recover goods and vehicles valued at millions in Umkomaas
The recovered goods and vehicles are linked to cases in KZN and Gauteng.

Stolen vehicles and goods worth over R5m were recently recovered in the Umkomaas area by police and other role-players .
Umkomaas Saps, Umzinto K9 unit, Car Track and Bravo 6 officials assisted in the recovery of pallets of cooking oil, a heavy duty truck, a Toyota Hilux 4×4 bakkie, an extra heavy duty truck, two trailers and two 12m containers with boxes of tobacco.
Captain Ranjith Rampersad, spokesperson at Umkomaas Saps, said that the stolen vehicles and goods are linked to three separate cases – one in Gauteng and two in KwaZulu-Natal.
These cases include theft and hijacking.
“Receiving stolen goods is a serious crime that fuels the illegal trade of stolen goods, which contributes to a cycle of theft and other criminal activities,” said Detective Captain Kreeba Govender, the acting branch commander of Detective Services.
“Our officers stay alert at all times, especially in intelligence collection and crime detection.”
Rampersad said that a case of attempted murder is being investigated by Detective Sergeant Shannon Ramlall, after the team was involved in a shootout with suspects while recovering the goods.
“Theft of cooking oil and tobacco are an increasingly common and lucrative crime driven by the high value of these products,” said Rampersad.
The acting station commander, Lt Colonel John Ngema, applauded all role-players for their collaborative efforts.
“Our men and women in blue execute their duties with a shared purpose, and every effort is made to arrest suspects within the precinct,” added Ngema.
Communities are urged to report crimes on 08600 10111.
