More than 13 000 arrests in KZN during October police operations
Intensified policing across the province also saw hundreds of firearms seized and stolen livestock recovered.

Police operations across KwaZulu-Natal, including Operation Shanela and daily policing efforts, led to the arrest of 13 164 people for various crimes in October.
Among these, 195 were linked to murder cases and 214 to attempted murder. Police also arrested 262 for rape, 11 for attempted rape, 45 for sexual assault, and 271 for Domestic Violence Act transgressions. A further 236 were arrested for robbery, including 108 for house robbery, while 1 865 were taken in for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
To curb violent crime, police recovered 306 firearms – including 14 rifles and 13 homemade guns – along with over 3 000 rounds of ammunition. Property-related crimes accounted for 452 arrests, with 231 of those for residential burglaries.
Livestock theft also featured in operations, with 56 arrests and the recovery of 131 cattle, 109 goats and 13 sheep.
On the roads, police arrested 931 motorists for drunk driving, while 16 were arrested for vehicle theft and 52 for theft out of motor vehicles. Drug-related operations resulted in 2 034 arrests.
Police have urged residents to secure their homes and vehicles, particularly as the festive season approaches.
