Murdered Cele family of KwaDweshula laid to rest
At the funeral KZN Premier, Thamsanqa Ntuli, described the incident as a senseless act, and called on law enforcement to bring the culprits to book.
Tears of sorrow rolled down the cheeks of mourners who attended the funeral of four members of the Cele family from KwaDweshula who were laid to rest after a service at the Dweshula Sports Ground last Sunday.
Tholani Grace Cele (69), her son Scelo Cele (45), daughters Lindokuhle Cele (44) and Nondumiso Cele (31) were shot and killed after unknown men stormed their home on December 31, last year, and demanded money.
They fled the scene, taking two cellphones with them.

Speaking at the funeral, the KZN Premier, Thamsanqa Ntuli, described the manner in which the family was killed as a senseless act, and called on law enforcement agencies to ensure the culprits are brought to book.
The premier’s presence served as a show of solidarity with the bereaved family and the wider KwaDweshula community.
Ntuli said the murders struck at the heart of community safety, human dignity and social cohesion.
“I urge residents of KwaDweshula and surrounding areas to become active partners in the fight against crime by working closely with law enforcement agencies.”
He called on the community to provide any information that could to assist police in fast-tracking investigations and bringing those responsible to justice.

The premier also encouraged police to intensify their efforts and ensure that all resources are deployed to address violent crime in the area.
He reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to strengthening crime prevention strategies and restoring peace and safety in communities affected by criminal violence.
Family member, Thulani Cele, said although no arrests have been made in connection with the murders, but they have high hopes it will happen soon.
“Premier Ntuli told us that the case is now being handled at provincial level, no longer in the district. We will always have hope, we can’t throw in the towel, not as yet, it’s still too early for that,” he said.
He thanked everyone who has been supporting the family.
