Boost for policing in Umkomaas

A decision was made to hold various blitzes, symposiums and crime awareness campaigns.

Strategies to fight criminal elements in the Umkomaas Saps patrol area were recently discussed at a meeting led by acting station commander Lt Colonel Mthembeni Zungu and his team, Umkomaas Community Police Forum, the Youth Desk and the Social Crime Prevention officers.

Discussions centred around the third quarterly crime as per the Saps annual operational plan and how to optimally utilise best practices and bench markings.

A consolidated year planner was drawn up.

It was unanimously decided that various blitzes, symposiums and crime awareness campaigns will be coordinated as per crime threat analysis in conjunction with Durban Metro Police, Road Traffic Inspectorate, specialised units and local security services.

According to police spokesperson Captain Ranjith Rampersad, various modus operandi were deliberated and criminals will face the full wrath of the law.

“Community policing is a proactive partnership between police and the residents of the precinct. This leads to smarter policing, mutual trust and shared responsibility,” said Rampersad.

According to Zungu all stakeholders are on board in the fight against crime.

“Every effort will be made to promote zero tolerance in Umkomaas and surrounds.”

Members of the community are urged to report all crimes to Umkomaas Saps on 039 9733103 or 082 3349766.
