Mtwalume cases closed, criminals behind bars
Police and the Department of Justice reassure the public that all cases will be thoroughly investigated.
Sanele Lushaba (37) has been convicted and sentenced to three years’ imprisonment for housebreaking and stock theft in Mtwalume.
According to Ugu District police, on September 7 last year, the complainant in this case discovered that his outbuilding in Mfazazane, Mtwalume was burgled.
The door was forced open, and his goat which was housed in the building was stolen.
A case was opened and allocated to Detective Constable Vukani Nombika, and forensic investigations led to the accused.
Members of the Hibberdene Task Team were tasked to trace and arrest Lushaba, and he was arrested on November 13.
This Hibberdene case concluded in court on April 21.
In a separate case, Lindokuhle Chili (29) was found guilty of possession of unlicensed ammunition at a residence in Mathulini, Mtwalume.
Hibberdene Saps members acted on information received and proceeded to an address at Mathulini on October 13, 2025 at about 02:00. Here they discovered Chili in possession of one .357 round of ammunition and one live 5.56 rifle round of ammunition.
The case was assigned to Detective Sergeant Thoko Cele, and on April 21, Chili was found guilty and sentenced to pay a fine of R10 000 or six months’ imprisonment.
Police and the Department of Justice reassure the public that all cases opened for investigation, be it the theft of a goat to more serious cases such as rape and murder, will be thoroughly investigated and given due diligence, thus resulting in the conviction of the accused.
