Ex-boyfriend sentenced in Mtwalume stabbing case

He was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment, wholly suspended for five years.

Asanda Msimango (21) who stabbed his ex-girlfriend was recently sentenced in the Scottburgh Regional Court.

He was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment, wholly suspended for five years, on condition that he is not convicted of assault during the period of suspension.

If he is convicted in a new case, then 10 year sentence may be implemented in addition to the sentence in the new case.

The incident occurred on December 27, 2024, when the woman, aged 20, was walking home in the Nyangwinin area in Mtwalume.

She was confronted by Msimango, who attempted to speak to her. When she declined, he allegedly drew a knife and stabbed her. She was rushed to a local hospital for treatment.

The matter was assigned to Detective Constable Khumalo of Hibberdene Detective Services for investigation.

Msimango was traced and arrested on August 22, 2025, after which he was formally charged. He made several court appearances at the Umzumbe Magistrate’s Court before the case was transferred to the Scottburgh Regional Court.
