Amandawe murder-accused awaits trial

The case was postponed to July 17.

Sbonelo Gumede appeared in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court on July 3 in connection with the murder of Nokuphila Mbhele of Mtwalume, the mother of his child.

Mbhele was shot multiple times in a rented room in Amandawe on March 30, 2025.

It is alleged Gumede fatally shot Mbhele, and then turned the gun on himself, but survived.

The magistrate warned the accused that it was his last chance to contact his lawyer as the case is ready for trial.

Mbhele’s s mother, Sthembile Mbhele said she was in Gauteng at the time of the shooting. She received a call asking her to return home.
