Port Shepstone court sentences man to 10 years for New Year’s Day stabbing
The sentence indicates that gender-based violence and domestic violence will not be tolerated.
Siyanda Popo Msomi (42) was convicted of aggravated assault and sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment in the Port Shepstone Regional Court on July 27.
He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
Msomi violently attacked and stabbed a woman (who was a family member) on January 1, 2025.
The family summoned the police, who arrested him.
Msomi defaulted on parole conditions, and as a result, bail was denied, causing him to remain in police custody.
He will serve the rest of his sentence in addition to the 10 years’ imprisonment.
The sentence indicates that gender-based violence and domestic violence will not be tolerated, and victims can be confident that perpetrators will receive the deserved punishment.
The investigating officer in the case was Detective Sergeant Bongumusa Lushaba of Paddock Detective Service.
