Lay counsellor earns golden ticket at SA Idols
Andiswa 'Live' Maduna has entered the competition previously, but she described her recent audition as her best effort.
Marburg Clinic lay counsellor, Andiswa ‘Live’ Maduna (26) who hails from Pietermaritzburg, wowed the judges at the South African Idols Season 18 Durban auditions recently.
Maduna said this was not her first Idols audition, however, she believes that it was her best, after having tried previously and being eliminated in the early stages.
“I wanted to try again because my mom wanted me to. I did not expect a golden ticket and it felt like a gift, Maduna said.
She was raised by her mom who was an evangelist, she started singing at a young age and remembered singing with her mother.
“My most favourite moment is of us singing hymns at the church during a storm or heavy rain,”Maduna added.
The songwriter and songstress said her preferred genre is Afro-Soul, and some of her songs have been featured by well-known artists and DJs such as Slenda da dancing DJ, Prince Bulo, Price Kaybee and many more who love her music.

Her music journey started with her singing choral and gospel at primary school, and today, she holds a degree in jazz and popular music from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
She is an established singer, songwriter and vocal coach.
Maduna said she feels that her parents who are both late are proud of her, and she promises to do them proud.
Her advice to up and coming artists who have not established their careers as yet, and are scared to try out on platforms such as SA Idols, to take a leap of faith.
“Take the chance. No one knows what the future holds. So the best thing to do it to just take that opportunity.”
While she doesn’t know what the future holds in this competition, however, she is in it to win it
