Ward 13 councillor sworn in
The councillor was welcomed back to the council by Umdoni leadership.
At a special Umdoni Municipality council meeting held at the Umzinto Town Hall last week, newly elected Ward 13 councillor Ravinand Maharaj was sworn in.
As an African National Congress (ANC) candidate, Cllr Maharaj won the recent by-elections for his ward and solemnly swore to serve Umdoni and the Ward 13 community that he leads with integrity and transparency.
He was sworn in by local magistrate Linda Mzila.
The Umdoni council now consists of a full complement of 37 councillors with changes to the ANC and Democratic Alliance’s (DA) number of representatives.
“The ANC has moved from 17 to 18 seats, the DA occupied 7 seats prior the resignation of one of their members which dropped their representation to 6,” said Sphelele Cele, Umdoni communications manager.
“Other parties still remain with the same number of seats. One for Allied Movement For Change (AM4C), five for Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), five for Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), one for Al Jama-ah and one for Abantu Batho Congress (ABC).”
The leadership welcomed Cllr Maharaj and duly congratulated him on his return to the Umdoni council.
