Great turn out at Jai Hind’s diamond jubilee celebration
The Hi-Land Convention Centre was packed with guests.
Jai Hind Primary School celebrated its 70th anniversary at the Hi-Land Convention Centre last Saturday.
The event was organised by the school, and the turn out was excellent.
Guests, parents and neighbouring schools came in their numbers to support this prestigious celebration.
Everyone was dressed to the nines and presented themselves beautifully.
Jai Hind Primary first opened its doors on August 20, 1951 with an enrolment of 220 learners. Principal, PP Moodley led a team of five educators.
The school has grown from humble beginnings and currently boasts an enrolment of 915 learners from Grade R to Grade 7.
Principal Dayalan Govender currently leads an experienced team of 31 educators.
Guest speaker was former MEC of KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Ravi Pillay.
Pillay said that his first year at Jai Hind was in 1964.
“A significant part of my life is reflected in the history of this school.”
He said back then it was for learners from Grade 1 to Grade 6, the school did not have a Grade 5 class, it was at Port Shepstone Secondary.
He explained how the school looked before and mentioned that sports day was the best experience for them growing up.
“The community was also supportive of the school and they started a feeding scheme for the school.”
He remembered a certain doctor who would always come to the school with boxes, at least once a year buying learners packets of chips.
“I hear there are learners who come from as far as Harding, Izingolweni, Mthwalume and other areas. This means that there must be something that you are doing right,” he added.
He congratulated the school and said its desire to make a difference is seen.
Mr Govender thanked all their sponsors for making the event a success.
