MECs with ties to Ugu take up office in KZN government
Both MECs are from the Ugu region.
The South Coast has two MECs in the KwaZulu-Natal provincial government, and they took up their new posts recently.
Siboniso Duma from Mthwalume who was recently elected as the chairperson of the ANC in KZN, is the MEC for Economic Development Tourism and Environmental Affairs in the province.
He is also the leader of Government Business.
Peggy Nkonyeni from Oshabeni near Port Shepstone who was MEC for Transport now holds the post of MEC for Finance.
The new KZN Premier, Nomusa Dube-Ncube announced the new provincial executive council in Pietermaritzburg last Thursday. Dube-Ncube replaced Sihle Zikalala.
Dube-Ncube said that Duma will ensure that as members of the executive council, all energies are channelled towards distribution of economic opportunities, to uplift people who are living below the poverty line.
“He will lead all efforts aimed at rebuilding the economy following the trail of destruction left behind by Covid-19 and floods.”
She also said the MEC for Finance will ensure the allocation of resources to government departments as part of strengthening service delivery.
“We are emphasising the importance of accountants in preventing fruitless expenditure and conserving resources. We have to acknowledge that unfortunately we live in a world where resources are limited.”
