Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) warns jobseekers not to pay anyone promising them a job in the municipality.
After the municipality advertised several positions a few weeks ago, scammers saw it as an opportunity to take advantage of desperate jobseekers, and promised to secure them employment in exchange for a fee, referred to as ‘idrinki’.
RNM spokesperson Simon April said: “We caution the public that in terms of our recruitment policy, the municipality follows a transparent, legal process which involves screening and shortlisting applications as per the job requirements.”
“Those procedures are then followed by a process of interviews after which successful candidates are appointed,” he added.
April said at this stage, if anyone is required to pay for any position and anyone who purports to be in a position to deliver any job through exchange of money is not telling the truth.
“The public is warned not to fall for such scams and we encourage such individuals to be reported to the nearest police station or our Anti-fraud and Corruption Hotline 0801111 660 or the presidential hotline on 17737.”
