WATCH: Up close and personal with crowned eagle and its dinner
The keen videographer was at the right place at the right time.
Reegan Booker captured some remarkable footage of a crowned eagle with its catch, a hyrax (dassie).
He unexpectedly stumbled across the eagle with its dinner in Ramsgate recently.
The large bird of prey is regarded as one of Africa’s most powerful eagles, if not the most powerful.
It’s been known to kill animals weighing up to 20kg.
Despite this, it was startled by Reegan’s presence and didn’t hang around once it noticed him, dropping its prey and flying away.
Reegan anticipated that the massive bird might return to fetch its kill. He dashed off to grab his GoPro camera and very quickly set it up nearby.
And, much to his delight, the eagle returned to fetch its snack!
