The public is informed of con artists targeting unemployed people in Umdoni.
The municipality confirmed this and stated that these criminals are requesting an upfront payment to secure posts for jobseekers at the municipality.
It must be noted that there are no jobs for sale at Umdoni Municipality and that this appears to be a money-making scam.
“Seeking payment to secure a job should be a red flag to the victims,” said mayor Sibongile Khathi.
“Making and receiving payment for employment is a two-way criminal act and Umdoni does not subscribe to that.”
The municipality’s recruitment process is guided by a policy which includes the implementation of a transparent and legal process of shortlisting, interviewing and appointing.
If anyone has been approached by the scammers, report these crimes to your local police or call the Anti-Fraud and Corruption Hotline on 080 1111660 where you can anonymously make a complaint.
“If at any point it is discovered that these individuals are municipal employees, the municipality will then implement the required disciplinary action.”
