Creating awareness for burn survivors
The men and women behind this awareness have been doing burn education in all the towns they stopped.
Burn Run 22 and the Hero Burn Foundation completed their third instalment of creating awareness of burns and burn victims and a 1360km run from the Ramsgate Boulevard recently.
This year Spar National in conjunction with Spar Pharmacy Group invested R100 000 into the Hero Burn Foundation.
On the teams departure outside the Ramsgate Boulevard, the official cheque handover was presented by Brett Muzzell from Spar Pharmacy to event organiser Leon Garbade and Annerie Du Plooy from Hero Burn Foundation.
The team of about 50 participants set off to Jeffreys Bay and completed six route stages and covered 1360km to complete the tour creating awareness along the route and doing burn education in all towns the teams stopped at.
“It’s all about creating awareness of the plight of burn survivors and raising funds for the Hero Burn Foundation. The route covered dirt roads on a six-day trip. The team used used motorbikes, quads and unconventional vehicles and in most circumstances unconventional roads,” said Garbade.
He is a past Round Table Southern Africa President and current 41er of Sheppie.
Garbade has been organising such events for a while, and this is the third instalment going out into deep rural areas creating awareness. The event started to raise money and awareness for a burn foundation and a successful partnership has been established between Burn Run and the Hero Burn Foundation.
