Get involved in Scouting
The official opening of the 1st Port Shepstone Boy Scouts Group was held last Saturday.
There was a time in Port Shepstone more especially in Marburg when the sight of young boys clad in khaki uniforms was a common one.
Boy Scouts have always enjoyed a curious and ambivalent relationship with society. Nowadays, they are a rare sight indeed. But there are attempts to revive the Boy Scout movement in Port Shepstone.
Last Saturday saw the relaunch of the 1st Port Shepstone Boy Scouts where a fun and informative open day was held at the Girl Guide and Boy Scout Hall at 29 Mitchell Drive, Port Shepstone.
A group of volunteers who have invested in the 1st Port Shepstone Boy Scouts undertook their training and development programmes in preparation for their investiture as leaders.
Scout trooper Morgan Naidoo said: “If you have a son aged six and older consider the Cubs and Scouts programme as an activity and you will be empowering him with life skills. Some activities include camping, hiking, sports woodcraft, swimming and much more.”
The Rotary Club of Port Shepstone is committed to supporting the boy Scouts group as part of its youth upliftment programme. The 1st Margate Scouts group were present and showed newcomers how interesting Scouts can be in developing leadership skills, character-building and making them healthy in body, mind and spirit.
