Injured turtle found on beach
A tired and hurt Loggerhead turtle washed out by rough seas is in rehabilitation at uShaka Marine World and will be released back to fresh water when it is fully recovered
A family found a loggerhead turtle on the beach between Sea Park and Umtentweni last Sunday.
Ed Holden Smith said the juvenile turtle measured about 450mm, looked weak and had a fresh wound.
“We had rough sea conditions with large swells and I think the turtle got beaten up on rocks and washed out onto the sand,” said Smith.
He said with the help of local fishermen, they informed the local SPCA who picked it up and later handed it over to Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife.
The turtle was then transported to uShaka Marine World for rehabilitation.
