Rub shoulders with film industry’s ‘Who’s Who’
There's talk that a Hollywood star may also attend the Ugu Film Festival - watch this space.
The tenth edition of the Ugu Film Festival takes place this month, welcoming film enthusiasts to an information-sharing platform and screenings of various local and international films.
This will take place from September 22 to 25.
Founder Senzo Dlamini said some ‘big stars’ in the industry are expected to attend, including Nelisa Mchunu, Jet Ndlovu and Luthuli Dlamini.
The festival will be launched with a Red Carpet event at Ster-Kinekor, Shelly Centre on Thursday, September 22 at 18:30.
The festival will also include outreach programmes in various communities, with visits to KwaNdundu Community Hall in Izingolweni on September 23 and Bhoshongweni Arts Centre in Mthwalume on Friday, September 24,
“The intention is inspire upcoming youth and captains of industries, all the while entertaining fans with great films and interesting workshops, in order to sustain a friendly working environment, praising professionalism, and encouraging responsible decision-making processes,” said Zindela.
The 2022 hybrid lineup of films and workshops are meant to empower and equip fans with breakthrough information to help them grow from strength to strength,
The first workshop will be held at the Wild Coast Casino, where Siyabonga Zungu will give a tribute to the former industry giant, the late Menzi Ngubane.
This will be followed by a discussion on script writing by Dale Abrahams, as well as a film rating session and a masterclass by the National Films and Video Foundation.
The second day will comprise of talks on the Nigerian Film Industry by Madiba Media and Productions, an Austrian Film Festival and Cultural Exchange by Olivier Dejean, followed by Gerhard Rupp who will share insights on production in Austria.
Films to be screened during the festival include Death of Spaza by Luzuko Yafele, Eskhaleni KwaNtombela by Sizwe Zuma, Pass by Elika Abdollahi, and Tiger Mom by Wei Zhang.
