The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) in the Ugu District is mourning the loss of Cllr Mpilo Patrick Mteshane (70) from Umuziwabantu who was a Party Proportional Representative directly elected at the municipality.
He was also a secretary of the region of the IFP.
Mtseshane died in hospital on Monday morning this week.
He was the first IFP mayor at Umuziwabantu in Harding in 1996.
Chairperson of the IFP in the region Sfundo Ngwane said Mteshane served the IFP with dignity, loyalty and honesty.
“He worked as a teacher and became principal of Mbusi High School before he took the responsibility of being a full-time mayor.”
Mtseshane worked at Ugu after the local government elections in November 2021.
“It is with great sorrow because as the IFP was starting to regroup in Ugu, we lost him. He was tasked to organise branches in Ugu.”
Ngwane said after 2011 when the party experienced a massive loss Mteshane did not quit, he stayed on because he believed in the IFP ideology.
“The IFP wishes that his family finds comfort in God Almighty, his wife and children.”
He will be laid to rest on Saturday.
