Boerie rolls and animal love on Heritage Day
The fundraiser for animals with cancer was a first for the South Coast.
charuFood Lover’s Market at the Southcoast Mall made a difference on Heritage Day by raising funds for the Southern Africa Animal Cancer Association (SAACA) last Saturday.
The boerie rolls were sold outside the store, and it was a huge success!
SAACA is the first organisation in Africa to focus on cancer and animals.
Not only do they work with Onderstepoort as a research institute, but are involved in sterilizations, feeding and adoptions of animals.
Madeleine Pretorius, who has been appointed as SAACA KwaZulu-Natal provincial director, assured that the organisation will roll out more and even bigger events in the near future.
“We will be rolling out lots of fun and exciting events in the next few months, do watch this space,” she said.
The next big event planned is the SAACA National Potjieskos Competition: South Coast, and will be hosted by Food Lover’s Southcoast Mall once again. The three winning teams nationally will be competing in a cook off in Golden Gate in April next year.
Madeleine visited the South Coast on holiday as a child, fell in love with the coast and continued the tradition with her own family for about 29 years. It is a dream come true for her, that she can live and work on the coastal stretch.
The braai hamper raffle was also a raving success and the community generously contributed by buying tickets.
“I couldn’t have chosen a better place to launch SAACA, than at my favourite shop and mall,” she said.
She thanked Food Lover’s Market, House and Home and Southcoast Mall for supporting SAACA’s first event on the coast.
