Catch top acts at maskandi festival
Some of the acts include Ntencane, Big Zulu, Khuzani, and the legendary Phuzekhemisi.
Following the success of last year’s Maskandi Music Festival in Harding, event organiser Ugu Broadcasting Services is going even bigger this year with the festival set to take place at Ugu Sport and Leisure Centre in Gamalakhe on Saturday, October 1 from 10:00.
The festival, which is bringing some of the biggest maskandi stars is being organised in partnership with Umuziwabantu and Ray Nkonyeni local municipalities.
Siyabonga Mkhungo director of Ugu Broadcasting Services said: “We are excited to be hosting the Maskandi Music Festival which we believe is on track to becoming a household event in the district.”
He said they started the festival to embrace the Nguni culture and heritage through art and crafts.
“When we hold events of this nature and magnitude, we always strive to ensure local communities benefit most through the temporary job opportunities and this extends to local hiring and supply businesses.”
The acts include Ntencane, Big Zulu, Khuzani, and the legendary Phuzekhemisi who will be supported by Duncan, Zakwe and many more. The event will also cater to local South Coast artists who are joining the day’s line-up.
Phelisa Mangcu, CEO of South Coast Tourism and Investment Enterprise (SCTIE) said this is a fantastic example of the type of events that could be hosted in the region.
“It’s wonderful that the inaugural event was so well-received and that the KZN South Coast is able to host the second Maskandi Music Festival.
“This not only celebrates the local talent and culture of the Paradise of the Zulu Kingdom, but it also positions the KZN South Coast as a key events destination, creating jobs and attracting tourism to the region. We’re excited to welcome these incredible artists and the many fans of maskandi to the KZN South Coast.” Mangcu added.
Attendees can bring in cooler boxes at a small cost, and glass is not permitted on site.
