Locals star in comedy show ‘Whose PUTT is it anyway?’

Book your tickets for an evening of spontaneous and improvised comedy by Barbie Meyer Production at Southbroom Golf Club on Friday, October 14 at 18:00 for 18.30.
‘Whose PUTT is it anyway?’ is the brand new, side-splitting, unedited, improvisation show produced and directed by local actress extraordinaire, Barbie.
What makes it one not-to-be missed is that it stars locals, Pauline Lee, Alan Hurlbatt, Clare Gaze, Howard Kelly, James Carlsen, Sarah Unsworth, Dean Shuttleworth and Barbie Meyer.
Barbie has hunted down a crazy, cross-section of performers notorious for their comedic skills and ability to think on their feet. And yes, everything is made up on the spot.
Booing, groaning and cheering from the audience, as well as, ideas for scenes and topics will be par for the course on the night. It’s improv – come unprepared!
Barbie was delighted to train under improv fundi Keith Johnstone in London a number of years ago. Keith is one of the few internationally recognised authorities in this field; he is considered the father of improvisation – great chunks of which he created. He is also responsible for ‘Theatresports’, which loosely put are hilarious, unrehearsed shows using improvisation games as a sport.
She put together two previous improv shows on the coast.
“I’m not sure if the performers or the audience had more fun on the night. Felt like a win-win to me. And it seems like another show has been percolating in my innards for a while now, post Covid-19 and all that. Time to laugh. So, I hunted down a fabulous team – notorious for their comedic skills, grumpiness, unedited spoken words and willingness to give things a ‘go’,” she said.
The show on October 14, is a bit of a wild tiger – it runs on five semi-sane players performing spontaneous scenes on the spot. There really is no script – and yes, we rely on the audience to help with topics and ideas on the night.
This tiger is kept in check by a strong and competent ringleader and two ruthless judges who dish out points or punish players mercilessly when necessary – essential!
Each player is a team on their own vying for the coveted trophy – and in this show, considering that we’re at the Southbroom Golf Club, the trophy is a Pink Putter.
