South Coast beaches are open to visitors
South Coast beaches are not contaminated and not closed.
The CEO of South Coast Tourism and Investment Enterprise, Phelisa Mangcu says South Coast beaches are ready to welcome visitors for the summer holidays.
She made this statement to set the record straight from the misconception that some South Coast beaches are contaminated with high E.coli levels or closed.
“There has also been a huge amount of national and international negative publicity relating to KwaZulu-Natal, Durban and beach closures. Beach closures have been frequent in Amanzimtoti, as well as, a few beaches further south in the Sapphire Coast Tourism region (south of Durban – Bluff to Umkomaas), hence the perception the KZN South Coast being affected. Scottburgh beach was also closed recently for a few days.”
Mangcu said there are concerns that this will impact tourism numbers over the festive season.
“We would like to assure everyone that our marketing team has been communicating the fact that KZN South Coast beaches are open and #SummerReady via press releases, social media posts, media interviews and more.”
Mangcu has had interviews and will continue with more interviews for TV and Radio to run a drive, to promote KZN South Coast beaches being open.
She said the tourism body will continue with the drive and also post on all social media platforms about all the being beaches open.
“We are also approaching Tourism KZN to request their assistance with amplifying our messaging.”
