Armed robbers target pension payout store
The robbers fled taking the pension money, and the store's cash and cigarettes.
A gang of men stormed into a Hibberdene supermarket this week and attacked a security guard and threatened the store manager.
Police spokesperson, Captain Petros Mpinge said Hibberdene Saps has opened a case of business robbery after the supermarket was robbed at about 07:00 on Wednesday.
“It is alleged that at least 10 men, some of whom were armed, held up a security guard and disarmed him. They threatened the manager to open the safe, and they took the pension money and the store’s cash and cigarettes.”
The robbers fled with an undisclosed amount of cash in a white Isuzu bakkie, which is presumed to be their getaway vehicle.
No one was harmed and it was reported that no customers were in the store during the robbery.
No arrests have been made as yet. Police are asking anyone with information, to contact the Hibberdene police station on 039 699 9800.
