Bystanders save man’s life at restaurant
Paramedics praised the bystanders for saving the man's life.
Three bystanders jumped in and saved the life of a man who was choking on a piece of chicken schnitzel at a Ramsgate restaurant last Sunday.
Staff members of the restaurant, Zuret Opperman and Tonya van Vurren, together with a regular diner, Dave Campbell were the A-Team who administered CPR for about 35 minutes until paramedics arrived.
Chantell Botha of Kwazulu Private Ambulance Service said they responded to a call that a patient was choking, and CPR was being done.
“According to witnesses the patient had been choking and collapsed. The three bystanders immediately checked the patient and started CPR. Paramedics assessed the patient and found that with the quick and effective CPR, the patient had been successfully resuscitated.”
Paramedics transported the patient to hospital.
Kwazulu Private Ambulance Service thanked the bystanders for the amazing efforts and their quick and effective CPR.
“We would also like to urge the public to become CPR trained, this incident shows how effective, early CPR can be,” said Botha.
Zuret said that it was thanks to her time volunteering at NSRI Shelly Beach that she was able to do what she did on Sunday.
