Sewing school graduates earn certificates
Rural women appreciative of the support and skills they acquired at the St Margaret's Anglican Church's Centre of Concern Sewing School.
Eighteen students from St Margaret’s Anglican Church’s Centre of Concern Sewing School were awarded certificates for completing their courses recently.
Most of the women who enrolled for the church’s outreach project are unemployed, and are from the rural areas surrounding Margate.
According to the organisers, the project seeks to empower these women from underprivileged backgrounds, many of whom are single mothers and are supporting their families.
The students said they are grateful to be beneficiaries of this programme, especially now that they have certification for their skills, they can seek employment or start their own businesses.
Seven students graduated as part of the second year group while 11 are from the first year group.
The graduation was attended by educators, family and members of the Hibiscus Rotary.
As part of the entertainment, Sydney Nhlumayo a member of the Eric Ngaleka Choir, also a beneficiary of a donation from the church sang for the guests.
Nhlumayo also showed off a certificate and trophy won by the choir at two recent competitions, and said it was through the support of the church that they are successful.
