No final exam permits for suspended students
Suspended Esayidi Tvet College electrical engineering students are worried about their future after not being allowed to write final semester examinations.
Frustrations are brewing among suspended electrical engineering students at Esayidi Tvet College as they have not been issued with examination permits, despite the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) issuing a statement that they will be included in the final semester examinations.
The students were suspended after the marking of their second semester examinations in July, after exam papers were allegedly leaked at more that four Tvet college across the province.
Examinations started on Monday this week and students said that being unable to write their finals is setting them back with their studies.
The suspended students are in their final year (N6) and first year (N3).
According to the students, the faculty HOD of the college said it was out of the college’s control to allow them into the examination room, without a directive from DHET as it issued the suspensions.
Attempts were made to get comment from the DHET, however none was received at the time of going to press.
A DHET employee was contacted about the matter, but was unable give official comment. He was shocked that the students had not received their exam permits.
He suggested that the Herald contact Esayidi Tvet College’s examinations manager who was also unavailable to give comment.
