TWO IN THREE DAYS: Gigantic green mamba makes snake catcher’s week a big one

Sarel van der Merwe has had some 'showstopper' moments this week, as he bagged his second 'huuuuuge' mamba in three days.

Only a few weeks into summer and already South Coast snake catcher, Sarel van der Merwe has caught two massive-sized mambas.

Earlier this week, he seized a monster-size black mamba in Gamalakhe, measuring more than three metres.

Yesterday (Thursday) Sarel caught a massive green mamba in a garden in Munster.

Sarel said he had a busy day, but the beautiful ‘grass green’ mamba, measuring more than two metres, was his ‘showstopper’ catch of the day.

The Munster home owners spotted the big mamba living life in their garden, and watched it until Sarel arrived to catch it.

Overall, Sarel has had a busy week! He has rescued several snakes this week.

About a day ago, Sarel nabbed a mamba from a chest of drawers.

“The owner spotted the snake coming in the front door and then slithered under a chest of drawers and disappeared into one of the drawers.”

Yes, a green mamba in a drawer.

Sarel, together with the help of his assistant Emma-Jane Cox, has retrieved green mambas from some interesting places of late – on top of a dishrack in Sea Park, a curtain rail in a bedroom at Pumula and he even went searching for a green mamba on a calabash farm, to name a few places along the coast.
