Festive season bookings look promising
The December holidays are looking positive for those in the hotel and tourism industry.
It appears it is all systems go ahead of the holiday season for the South Coast. Well, that’s assuming there are no major issues with water supply, of course.
After the Herald’s last week’s front page ‘Beaches open’ – the newspaper received further positive feedback from Simon April, Ray Nkonyeni Municipality’s spokesman and Phelisa Mangcu, CEO of South Coast Tourism and Investment Enterprise.
With the coast’s beaches open, the next question is: what are the bookings looking like for the festive season?
Mangcu responded saying that this year’s festive season bookings are looking good with many of the coast’s tourism establishments reporting high occupancy rates ahead of December.
“Overall, our members are optimistic about the upturn in our local tourism economy, particularly as all KZN South Coast beaches are open for swimming.”
The recent announcement that six of the coast’s beaches have retained the internationally recognised Blue Flag status – the highest number in the province – and another five have earned pilot status indicates that the KZN South Coast is summer ready.
With regards to the Margate Olympic pool not being in operation, April confirmed that the municipality has appointed the service provider to work on the Margate Olympic Pool and will be on site this week.
“The service provider has assured the municipality that they will push for the completion before the start of season,” he added.
He said that on the issue of broken walkways and ablution facilities, their internal teams are attending to them.
