Global recognition for accountant Elzanne
Much sacrifice has gone into achieving these outstanding academic results.
Former Port Shepstone High pupil, Elzanne Murdoch, has placed in the top 30 globally in ACCA exams.
She was ACCA’s (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) top South African student and therefore a prize winner in Strategic Business Leader for the September exams.
Elzanne explained that the ACCA qualifications consists of writing four strategic papers in the final stages.
“Strategic business reporting, strategic business leader, and then there are options for the last two papers of which I chose advanced auditing and assurance and advanced financial management,” she said.
Elzanne accomplished all this while working and raising two teenage girls.
She has lived in St. Michaels for the last seven years and worked remotely for a Johannesburg based audit firm.
“I’m not sure where to from here but I’d like to go corporate and am exploring options at the moment,” she said.
Elzanne hasn’t stopped studying since school and has a string of degrees behind her. These include B Com in Management and Information Systems from Rhodes University, B Compt in Accounting from Unisa, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Advanced Accounting Sciences from Unisa.
“It has been extremely difficult at times and it did involve a lot of sacrifice. I was working eight hours days and then would study at nights and on weekends, so I’ve had no social life. I’ve had to depend a lot on family to help, but my children, husband and parents have supported me all the way and pushed me when I felt like giving up.”
