Family loses everything in house fire

A family of nine in Fairview has been left with nothing after their home was gutted roughly two weeks ago.
According to the family, it is unknown what started the fire, however, all they saw were big flames.
Fortunately, there were no fatalities.
Devastated mother, Andiswa Nodubela, said everything was engulfed by the flames including her children’s IDs, school uniforms, laptops, stationery and clothes.
“We even lost all our food, furniture and pots, we couldn’t take anything,” she explained.
She said what is more traumatic for her is that she had recently built her home – in 2020 – and was in the process of extending it; all her building materials for the extension were burnt to ashes.
Activist Ibrahim Shaik responded to the scene and found the family traumatised.
He contacted Ray Nkonyeni Municipality’s Disaster Management to put out the fire and see what assistance the family needed.
Nodubela said she was grateful for the help received.
The next morning a month’s worth of food was dropped off to help the family cope.
Further donations of clothes and bedding were received from the community, some who responded to appeals on social media.
“We are looking to get more help and counselling will be arranged for the children,” said Shaik.
Shaik said the family would continue to monitor the family to ensure they get the help and support during this difficult time.
