Jamson Mzangwa Ndovela of Ward 24 (Bomela and Nyandezulu areas) under Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) has resigned as an ANC councillor.
It is believed that he resigned after he got his job back at Ugu District Municipality, as he was one of the 119 workers who were dismissed in 2019 and re-instated in October this year.
Ndovela confirmed that he has resigned and gone back to his old job at Ugu.
“I submitted my resignation letter to the municipality on Monday last week.”
The spokesperson of RNM, Simon April confirmed that the municipality received Ndovela’s resignation letter.
“According to the letter, the reason for the resignation is that the councillor has gone back to his previous job and cannot continue as a councillor.”
April said council accepted the resignation and declared a vacancy, and the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) will be informed.
“The IEC will then deal with the process of filling the position, which is a by-election. As RNM we are unable to say when the by-election will be held since it’s an independent process by IEC.”
He said RNM speaker Zodwa Mzindle will in the meantime look at how issues of Ward 24 are handled up until the vacancy is filled.
