3.4-METRE BLACK MAMBA: ‘Not your average pet,’ says snake catcher [PICS]
The black mamba was found behind the door wrapped around a braai grid, and Sarel joked that perhaps the black mamba was hoping to 'hang out to braai' with the Port Edward family.
Snake catcher Sarel van der Merwe has nabbed probably his biggest catch for 2022.
He travelled speedily to Port Edward last Friday after receiving a phone call from a concerned Ricky Shrives about a black mamba that was in his house.
This wasn’t your usual big black mamba, but rather a serpent measuring about 3.4m.
Ricky and his fiancée, Natasha Kruger, were outside on the porch when they heard a noise coming from behind the door. Ricky went to investigate and spotted the black mamba wrapped around the braai grid that was hanging behind the door.
Natasha said they called Sarel, and he was there in a flash.
“It didn’t take him more than five minutes to safely remove the snake. He is certainly ‘Super Sarel’ and I would recommend him to anyone. His passion shines though,” she said.
Natasha added that their guardian angels were certainly looking out for them of this particular day.
In November this year, he caught a mamba more than three metres in a storeroom in Gamalakhe. However, Sarel reckons the black mamba he caught this week in Port Edward is longer. He estimated it to be about 3.4 metres.
