Isaiah ch 9 vs 2:
‘The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them a light has shined.’
For many, the outbreak of Covid was the most trying of times. It altered our lives permanently, with memories of loss too traumatic to remember and yet hard to forget.
Never before were we faced with such uncertainty.
2022 had some promise and we felt a bit of relief with the lifting of restrictions, yet there is still no joy.
Presently, it seems as though humanity is struggling with an issue if identity. We don’t know who or whose we are.
Just when we feel that all hope is lost and there is no way out of this cesspool of sin and chaos, Jesus, the only begotten of God, declares in John 16:33 that ‘these things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.’
Further, Isaiah 9:2 reminds us that we have seen the great light.
In the midst of all the doom and gloom we have seen the great light and to those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them light has shined.
What an awesome word of encouragement.
The season that is ushered in by the month of December does just that. It reminds us of a loving Heavenly Father who sent His Son to us, the light that dispels all darkness, deep darkness.
It’s to remind us of the hope we have in Christ Jesus.
In John 8:12, Jesus says “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
It is this season that reminds us to share the love of Jesus Christ, so that the world can know about that light. The Light that is able to save, redeem, restore and reconcile us back to the Father.
It is this season that reminds us of the greatest Gift to humanity. In Isaiah 9:6 it says ‘For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given’.
Our position and posture must be to focus on the Word of God, for in it lies our hope for tomorrow and the years ahead. We must ‘arise, shine;
for your light has come and the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and deep darkness the people; but the Lord will arise over you, and His glory will be seen upon you’.
