The South Coast is ready to welcome 2023!

All the beaches are open, lifeguards are back on duty (after downing tools on Christmas Eve) and an epic New Year’s Eve Beach Party is set for Ramsgate’s Main Beach on Saturday, December 31 at 18:00.

If in Gamalakhe, the Kasified New Year’s Eksperience will be one to keep in mind.
For the past 20 years, new year parties have been held on Southbroom Beach. This year, the iconic event has moved to its new venue – Ramgsate Main Beach.

“This year we make our move to the beautiful Ramsgate Blue Flag Beach offering a huge open air dance floor as well as chill out beach zones on Ramsgate Main Beach,” said organiser Vicky Wentzel of Wozani Africa Events.

The line-up of performers and DJs include Matthew Mole – SAMA winner, Cape Town-based singer, songwriter; Yale – DJ/ producer from Durban favouring deep tech and melodic techno grooves; Luke Lambert – DJ/ producer is back by popular demand; M.Y.K – rapper, singer, songwriter; Karlem – deep house/deep tech DJ from the club scene in Pretoria, and Durban based boy Jethro AKA J. Schultz.

There are family friendly access options – U12s accompanied by parents are allowed in at no cost, but no U12s are allowed on the main dance floor. Families wanting to bring in picnic blankets, deck chairs and food baskets to be used on the main beach only, are welcome.

That’s not all, don’t miss the Sweetdale Night Market at The Packshed in Margate on Friday, December 30 at 18:00.

If you want to kick-start the first day of 2023 on a healthy note, there will be a Family Fun Day with Colour at Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre on Sunday, January 1 at 10:00.

The good news is that South Coast’s beaches, unlike Durban beaches which have been plagued with E-Coli, have remained open this holiday season.

The coast had a short-lived scare on Christmas Eve (December 24) after lifeguards on certain beaches ‘downed tools’ for not being paid for days in August and in September. They furthermore told the Herald that they had not received their ‘Christmas money’.

Quick intervention by Ray Nkonyeni Municipality saw the the issue resolved, and lifeguards were back at work on Christmas Day.
