Man (56) in court for fatal shooting in Southport

The matter is back in court for a formal bail application on January 10.

A 56-year-old man was arrested in connection with a fatal shooting which occurred in Southport on December 28, 2022.

The accused appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court on a charge of murder on December 29.

The matter was postponed to January 10 for a formal bail application.

Police spokesperson Captain Petros Mpinge said police opened a case of murder after a 61-year-old man was fatally shot at Anerley Gardens in Southport.

“The victim was declared dead on the scene,” said Capt Mpinge.

On the Lazer 911 WhatsApp group, a post read that security officers received a call from a business client in Southport requesting assistance after he heard a gunshot on his premises.

The officers managed to disarm the suspect and arrest him, read the post.
