Drug peddlers and criminals nabbed by cops in Ugu District
It is impossible to curb crime, especially the drug trade on the South Coast without the constant effort of all law enforcement and the valuable information supplied by members of the public.
Police continue to be hot on the heels of drug peddlers and criminals throughout the Ugu District.
- Mehlomnyama Saps made several arrests for assault GBH, dealing in liquor and possession of drugs on January 7. Crates of beer were confiscated and at least five persons will be appear in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court on these charges.
Also on the same day, police spokesperson Captain Petros Mpinge said that Saps Hibberdene members were performing stop and search duties in Nomakhanzana area when they arrested a 36-year-old man who had in his possession tik straws and one heroin capsule.
Information received led police members to Turton taxi rank where a man (25) who tried to flee was arrested for possession of mandrax.
- During January 8 and 9, eight persons were charged for dealing in liquor without a licence by members of Saps Port Shepstone.
Cpt Mpinge said a large amount of beer and a box of hard liquor was confiscated by police. Stop and searches and patrols in Betania, Marine Drive in Shelly Beach and Marburg led to the arrest of nine persons who were found in possession of drugs such as rock cocaine, dagga, mandrax and heroin capsules.
Also on January 8, a 21-year-old woman was arrested in Hibberdene CBD for possession of heroin. All arrested suspects are due to appear in court soon.
- On January 10, members from the Provincial Drug and Firearm unit conducted an early morning raid on the residence of a drug dealer in Eluphepheni in St Faiths.
A 42-year old man was arrested after he was found with over 300 capsules of heroin. The value of the drugs is R9 000.
He was charged and will appear in the Phungashe Magistrate’s court soon.
