Search on for man swept off rocks in Margate
Duty crew from NSRI Station 20 Shelly Beach also responded.
The search for a 30-year-old man who went missing off Margate beach is still underway.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Sibu Ncane said Saps K9 Search and Rescue team has been searching for the man since last Sunday.
He confirmed that Margate police are investigating a case of a missing person.
Glen Preston of Med-Evac said the man was reportedly washed off the rocks in the afternoon.
He said his crew were flagged down by bystanders who initially saw the man.
“It just so happened that Christo van Rooyen, who was volunteering on the ambulance was also an NSRI Shelly Beach crew member.
Van Rooyen entered the water to try to get to the man but was unable to due to the strong current against the rocks,” said Preston.
Duty crew from NSRI Station 20 Shelly Beach also responded.
Preston said the scene was handed over to Saps to continue the search and locate the family members.
