Local art club to focus on watercolour painting
All artists in the Lower South Coast, new or seasoned, are invited to join the Art by the Sea Club. Meetings are at the Margate Art Museum on Tuesdays, 09:00 to noon.
Art by the Sea resumed its Tuesday activities for the new year and the excitement and enthusiasm of the members was touching after the holiday break.
On the programme for January 24 will be a fun session in ‘abstract extension’. This is where a tiny square cutting (3cm × 3cm) from a magazine is placed on a canvas and then that is extended to all sides to form an abstract painting – promising amazing, unexpected results.
The last day of January, as with every last meeting day of each month, is devoted to an Art Appreciation session, where member artists showcase their recent completed art works for critique and help by fellow artists.
For the month of February the focus will be on watercolour painting. Well-known watercolourist Willem Joubert recently relocated to the South Coast and joined the ranks of Art by the Sea. On February 7 he will host a ‘how to’ workshop on watercolour painting and continue with that the following week to assist with problems and provide further advice. In the third week there will be a short informative session on using masking liquid in watercolour paintings.
