One dead in shootout involving off-duty cop

Port Shepstone Saps is investigating a case of robbery.

A group of unknown men, pretending to be seeking employment, entered a shop in the Izotsha area on Tuesday this week. At about the same time, an off-duty police officer walked in, requesting to see the manager.

Police spokesman Colonel Robert Netshiunda said it’s alleged that the men drew knives and attempted to tie-up both the off-duty police officer and the manager.

One of the gang members reportedly attempted to stab the officer. A  shootout pursued, which left one of the unknown men fatally wounded.
