During Thai Poosam Kavady, a Hindu religious festival, the Hindu deity, Lord Muruga is worshipped.
Devotees from the Port Shepstone Tamil Association, the Umzimkulwana Shri Siva Soobramoniar Temple and the Umbango Sri Siva Soobramoniar Alayam will observe the main festival prayer this Saturday (4th).
Devotees carry a Kavady, which is a wooden frame decked with flowers, Hindu deities, lime, other fruit, and milk.
Umbango Temple
The Umbango Sri Siva Soobramoniar Alayam (Umbango Temple) invites you and your family to participate in its annual Thai Poosam Kavady festival this Saturday (4th). Hawan will commence at the temple at 06:00, thereafter the Kavady procession will proceed to the Marburg sports grounds. Lunch will be served and all are welcome.

Port Shepstone Hindu Temple
Thai Poosam Kavady started with a flag hoisting last Thursday. A daily prayer will continue at 18:30. Kavady will be observed this Saturday (4th) from 07:00. All are welcome to attend. For further information contact Pragasen Samuel on 073 7048506 or Kimara Rangasamy on 084 4471075.
The Umzimkuluwana Temple
The temple is hosting its 83rd Thai Poosam Kavady festival. The main festival will be observed this Saturday (4th) from 07:00 at the NPC Conservation Grounds.
