Celebrate Valentine’s Day at the Mardi Gras in Margate on Tuesday, February 14 from 18:00 to 22:00.
Margate’s Panorama Parade will transform into a street party with fabulous music and entertainment.
Forget about the woes of loadshedding and come enjoy a mid-week carnival celebration under the stars in the heart of the seaside town.
The return of the traditional family favourite, ‘Margate Mardi Gras’ has been welcomed by locals, with proceeds going to Tidy Towns Shelly to Margate.
Tidy Towns is doing marvellous work in upgrading Margate (and other coastal suburbs) to ensure it stays a go-to tourist destination.
Interestingly, Mardi is the French word for ‘Tuesday’, and gras means ‘fat’. In France, the day before Ash Wednesday came to be known as ‘Mardi Gras’, or ‘Fat Tuesday’.

This evening event is planned to be a wonderful festival with a variety of stalls and entertainment from fire dancers and In Motion Dance Studio, along with the Umpa Band.
Bring your family and friends to the night market which will have arts and crafts, a movie night and music along with lots of different
types of snacks (pancakes, ice-cream, samoosas and biltong) to buy.
Be sure to dress-up as there will be prizes for the best dressed, and the best stall.
There will be safe parking in town and behind the old RJ’s building. There will be attendants to watch cars and ensure your safety.
This will be the first of many, so come support the Tidy Town fundraiser.
It is sure going to be a vibe!
