The mid-South Coast’s popular recovery NPO, Laqhakaza Iphara, celebrates eight years of success and grace with an awareness campaign and career expo on Friday February 24.
This full day event will be held at Magabheni Township in Umkomaas, and all are welcome to join.
The day kicks off with a street store from 07:00 to 08:00. The organisation will hand out food to struggling addicts they meet on the streets, and will also provide them with messages of strength and hope.
“If we find those who want recovery, we will send them to rehab,” said the organisation’s chairman, Emmanuel Msomi.
Thereafter, an addiction awareness campaign will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 followed by lunch.
“Addiction awareness is a message of strength and hope to the still suffering addict and alcoholic.
“The message of strength helps those who are clean and sober to maintain their recovery, and the message of hope to non-addicts who live with addicts who are still in active addiction, and those who stay with clean addicts will help to heal while they are helping them to maintain their recovery.”
“We will also speak about helping them in general at recovery meetings, how to get a sponsor, the importance of going to church and we encourage them to get a job and to eventually become a constructive, productive member of society.”
The career expo will be held from 12:00 to 13:00 with the aim of helping those who want to start their career, but may be clueless on how to get going.
“It will expose other people to other careers they are not familiar with, and we will educate people on how to search for jobs,” added Emmanuel.
The day will conclude with a Laqhakaza Iphara family braai in Scottburgh.
This is one of the biggest events the organisation has ever had, and the team is hopeful that it will be a great success.
