The South Coast’s famous snake-catcher, Sarel van der Merwe, is still very busy racing around saving snakes.
It’s hardly surprising, considering February’s high temperatures.
Yesterday, his day started by climbing a very high tree to retrieve a green mamba hanging in its branches at KC’s coffee shop play area in Izotsha.
This is a very popular venue, where young children are able to play in the spacious play area.
Sarel said he left behind a group of ‘very happy and relieved’ parents.

Then, he caught another green mamba at Norwegian Settlers Church, also in Izotsha, at one of the entrances to the church.
“I think because of the situation that the country is in , even the snakes have become more religious,” he joked.
