Temples to observe Maha Shivarathri
Celebrating the festival of Maha Shivaratri, devotees observe a day and night fast and perform rituals worshipping Lord Shiva.
Maha Shivaratri festival or ‘The Night of Shiva’ is celebrated in honour of Lord Shiva, one of the deities of the Hindu Trinity.
Shivaratri falls on the moonless 14th night of the new moon in the Hindu month of Phalgun, which corresponds to the months of February and March. Celebrating the festival of Maha Shivaratri, devotees observe a day and night fast and perform rituals worshipping Lord Shiva.
This year the auspicious prayer will be observed this Saturday, February 18.
The Shree Raam Narayan Temple Society, which incorporates the Port Shepstone and District Sanathan Dharam Sabha, will host Maha Shivaratri this Saturday, February 18 from 18:00 to 06:00 the next day. The Umbango Sri Siva Soobramoniar Temple warmly invites you and your family to its annual Maha Shivarathri prayer this Saturday from 18:00 to 06:00 the next day. The evening starts with hawan at 18:00 followed by spiritual bhajans. Supper and refreshments will be served during the night. All service groups are welcome to render bhajans. Devotees are encouraged to spend the entire night of Maha Shivarathri at the temple. Devotees who want to contribute towards the four Jumuns (Obeyam prayer) along the night are welcome.
