Career day aims to inspire learners
This initiative was created by former students to give back to society.
Malangeni High and Sihle High Schools’ Grade 9 -12 learners are requested to save the date of an important upcoming Career Day programme being held especially for their benefit.
This event is being organised by former students from Sihle High in Malangeni, Umzinto who have decided to give back to society.
It will be held at the Sezela Cricket Ground on April 29, with the support of the Sezela Canegrowers Association as the main sponsor.
The main speaker on the day will be retired Chief Justice Sandile Ngcobo, a well-known Malangeni resident. Some of the professional bodies and state departments that have confirmed attendance are the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA), South African Institute of Engineering and Environmental Geologists (SAIEG), Department of Higher Education and Training, Cedara College of Agriculture, Esayidi TVET College and the University of KwaZulu-Natal among others.
The objective of this programme is to motivate and inspire the learners to strive towards academic excellence against all odds; to inform them about admission requirements for entry into various courses of study at universities and TVET Colleges, to inform them about the requirements and supporting documents required for applications for financial assistance in the form of bursaries, scholarships and study loans; to expose the learners to a range of careers they can pursue after Grade 12 to assist them to make informed career choice decisions leading to increased chances of absorption into the labour market/opening up of own businesses; to warn them about the threat posed by social ills that can derail their success; and to facilitate their applications for smart ID cards with the Department of Home Affairs;
The Career Day initiative also came into play to give learners hope for a bright future, regardless of where they come from.
